Trinity Church (first) holds its first service.

August 15, 1735

It is located at the corner of Summer Street and Hawley Street near today’s 26 Summer Street. The third Anglican church in Boston, the congregation was established on October 17, 1733 (April 1728)” by reason that the (King’s) Chapel is full and no pews are to be bought by newcomers.” Addington Davenport is the first minister. Parishioners include John Singleton Copley. The wooden building is replaced by a larger stone building (second) in 1829,* which is destroyed by the Great Fire of 1872. The congregation meets temporarily in Huntington Hall (Rogers Building-Allison) until moving to its current church (third) in the Back Bay in 1877.*
